The Smart India Hackathon 2024 grand finale is set to commence on December 11, with over 1,300 student teams from across the nation participating to tackle real-world problems. This year marks the seventh edition of the hackathon, organized by the Ministry of Education, and it will take place at 51 centers throughout India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to interact with participants via video conference on December 11 at 4:30 PM.
This flagship initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application, fostering a culture of innovation among students. The hackathon has seen a significant increase in participation, with over 86,000 teams entering at the institute level and approximately 49,000 advancing to the national round, making this edition the largest yet.
Participants will engage in both Software and Hardware Editions, with the Software Edition running from December 11-12 and the Hardware Edition from December 11-15. Teams will address more than 250 problem statements submitted by various ministries, state governments, and industries across 17 themes, including Smart Automation, MedTech, Agriculture, and Renewable Energy.
Notable problem statements this year include ISRO's challenge to enhance lunar imagery and the Jal Shakti Ministry's initiative for real-time monitoring of Ganga water quality. Each team consists of six students and two mentors, emphasizing collaboration and innovative thinking.
The Smart India Hackathon not only serves as a platform for students to showcase their creativity but also provides valuable insights and solutions for government and corporate sectors. The event has been instrumental in launching over 100 startups, many of which focus on social impact, highlighting its significance in India's innovation landscape.
